Major update :) :-) :-)
I know there's been a long time between updates and the reason for it would be one Avery McKenzie... our new little girl! She was born on Saturday...Mom and baby doing fine. Now the interesting thing here is I jokingly ( note: with apprehension and not during labor ) mentioned that I had thought of a nic ( yes, I've got it bad ) for the little one and Mom just stated... " How about 'SHarp Shoeter' ( direct quote...and with no hesitation! ) . Actually I have to admit it was better than my choice so SHarp Shoeter it is... with the obvious creative variation... :). I'm just not sure now that her immediate response means that she's really being supportive of my hobby or I'm just a bad influence on that particular area...probably a little of both :). No other updates today...sleep deprivation can be really interesting but there is a known cure for that...sleep... so that's where I'm headed. Updates will continue asap.... thanks for visiting the site in the meantime and I hope to have more for you soon! - WildWild

No major updates...
After checking around for a few minutes no major updates to report...seems as though everyone is trying out BFV or at least thinking about it. It looks as though there are a few mods for BFV which is nice to see...that seems to make the games life last a little longer...till later...

Call to Arms working on Bomber map...Next Threat dead???...BG42 and clickteam...
Call to Arms has been and is currently working on a map focusing on the British dam-busting missions of WWII. Currently they are working over how the site on the bomber would be located e.t.c....I thought I'd let you in on a little of the 'conversation'...Several lancaster bombers will take off from an airfield in England and fly over the English Channel in an attempt to destroy three dams in Europe. However, unlike Battle of Britain, there will be no fighter escort for the bombers. Lancaster bombers will have four positions, a pilot/bomber and three gunners - the latter of whom will have to hold off the fighters themselves if they wish to succeed, much like in a real bombing mission. German airfields will have fast-respawning fighters and fast-transit ground vehicles (for downed pilots), but few AA guns. AA will be situated heavily around the allied airstrip to prevent axis spawn-bombing....IMO I think the bombers should be as follows:
Pilot - with something so they can fly the "correct" height
Bombardier - their F9 view (no nosecam) has a graphic of the board/nails sight, calibrate for the dams in the map
Tail gunner/others that aren't so important.
How the bomb(upkeep?) should be depicted IMO is much like a torpedo - except limit its range a lot so if released farther from the dam than it should, it disappears before impact. To prevent the release from too close, maybe (and although it isn't historically correct) have the torpedo dive very deep, and then come back up closer to the surface/to half the depth of the water and have a "barricade" of land in front of the dam, so if you release too close it doesn't have sufficient time to go back up and clear the barricade. Possibly have an invisible object for this part, and a visible bomb along the surface (doubt it could bounce, but maybe if it fell briefly and then a very strong engine kicks in to send it horizontal so from the correct altitude its just above the water).
This is just a snippet if you will of the forum...if you want to read the rest...go here!!!!

PonoDclown of Next Threat has posted a message on their forum admitting the demise of the mod. Personally I liked the idea of the mod it being reminiscent of the mod for UT - StrikeForce. If you want head over to their forum and give them a word of encouragement or help if you think you've got something to offer.

BattleGroup42 had a notice on their website reporting the following...ClickTeam Installer vs McAfee AntiVirus - Someone must have been listening at McAfee. Todays 4341 DAT update resolves the issue it had with the ClickTeam installer so that executable files made with InstallCreator will not longer be detected as a possible Trojan and deleted. So get the latest update for your McAfee VirusScan now!

The Grant is now ingame for XWWII...not exactly the nicest looking tank but here it is anyway...I am very proud to show you the long awaited Grant1 in game. A bit of the grant’s history for you here: The British Tank Commission came to the US in June 1940 to purchase American tanks or have British tanks produced by American companies as there was a grave shortage of tanks in the British Army. Just in case you were wondering it's the main gunner that drives.

Lost Battalion has a large update on their website ...it's really worth a gander. I've picked a few of the pics, - first show the Aussie Characters in the game, the second showing off formation and camo and the last showing characters in the grass...

Forgotten Hope FHX mod released...Boomtown throws DICE...Who Dares Win mod update...Communist Aggression soundtrak...
There's been a mod released for FH as reported by Battlefield Singleplayer...Taken from a forum post by HDN: FHX is a single-player/COOP mini-mod for the Battlefield 1942 modification Forgotten Hope.
Version 0.61.1
First public release
Fixed coop crashing on all maps (FH_Defgun_2 bug)
Fixed bots not using AT weapons
Updated coop on all original maps to FH 0.61
Updated map Battle of Orel-1943 coop to FH 0.61
Added map Operation Aberdeen coop
Many small map tweaks

This is a mini mod, it will not muck with your original Forgotten Hope files like the previously posted single player/coop fix. Please read the enclosed readme.txt file for more information and install instructions.

FHX is looking for more people interested in tweaking/adding coop support to Forgotten Hope.
You can download the file here... ( 389.9KB )

Boomtown visited the Canadian Headquarters of DICE and produced this article....For instance, a sniper will have a much more obscured view because of trees and bushes, while other soldiers can spot the sniper more easily from a distance. This is true because the game engine only draws vegetation within 100 metres of you.

Who Dares Win mod has the M939 5 ton truck is now ingame according to their forums...look for a pic update soon.

Communist Aggression has begun working on their soundtrak...you can download it here and check out the reactions of the mod here...

Screenshots in BF...Tracing a XWWII F4F Wildcat model...Desert Combat dev releases a custom sound pack for Forgotten Hope (and a read )...EOD mappack released - download ... Xfire instant messenger for games ( no spyware- free )...DCX mods BFV...BFV Reviews...
Do you ever wonder how to take proper screenshots in Battlefield? Well, quite simple actually. Type 'Hud 0' to get rid of everything on the screen...apparently 'freecam 1' is also an excellent choice. 'Hud 1' brings back all the essentials...and how do you type all this in? Hit the ~ key...

Do you want to see a model being created right before your eyes for XWWII? Well, if you go to his webpage here you'll find his creation from day one to the current day...all under the guidance of true XWWII modelers at this forum here...

Tanelorn has released a soundpack for FH ... here's the readme...Ok just to show that I really do love this mod...Boy have I got something for you. I just did a sound revision addon for forgotten hope! It's just a single .rfa file that you drop into your FH folder, totally punkbuster compatible. It will let you play normal FH on any server with new sounds. No problems whatsoever.
Here's the file, and I'll paste the readme below:------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Tanelorn Sound revision addon for Forgotten Hope 0.61 (16 Mar 2004) This addon is an attempt to add a bit more realism to the game by replacing some obviously synthesized sounds with ones that come closer to real life. The addon mostly replaces handweapons and especially machineguns. Few if any large weapons have been touched. Only sounds which sounded far from realistic were adjusted. Only the 44khz and 22khz sounds have been touched. You will not experience any changes in 11khz mode. Unfortunately, this is merely a sound replacement. THe actual handling and soundscripting of the weapons have not been changed. Because of this, many of the weapons are still not sounding as good as they could. Many have priority problems causing them to go silent, and others have poor looping parameters. Many are not optimized for range / priority. I have no control over this, and have chosen sounds that work as good as can be expected for the given soundscripts. Note that this is a simple file addition, it does not overwrite any FH files and is completely compatible with punkbuster. I have sucessfully used it in multiple popular FH servers for a few weeks.

*** INSTALLATION ***
You will see one file within this zip file, called sound_001.rfa. This file goes into your Mods directory.
The following files are included in this zip (with pathnames)
/mods/FH/archives/sound_001.rfa
Again, this is not a mod or a minimod. Once you drop this file in, you will immediately experience the changes in your next game. No further effort is required.
*** end installation ***

Revision history
>>> version 0.5
The following sounds have been revised: - .30cal coaxial- .50cal browning - BAR 1918- Bren - MG34, all versions - MG42, all versions - MP18 (japanese sub-gun) - MP40- PPSH - SG44 - Thompson - DPMG including handweapon, pin-mounted, and coaxial .This is probably a one-shot addon, with no planned future revisions.
The download is here...no aircraft sounds...interesting... ( sorry, couldn't resist ).

Just in case you were wondering " What in the world is a DC Dev helping out FH for? " this may not be Tanelorn's real point of view. I ran into this 'thank-you' and actually found it quite the read....I haven't played FH but the whole fiassco of FH stealing BG42's aircraft sounds have made me less of a friend...so here's Tanelorn's post for your reading enjoyment....

Wow, FH is so awesome. It's such a huge improvement over 0.5. I love it. Absolutely love it. Some of you may have seen me on FH servers, I usually run with my DC Dev tag. Now for some fun. I especially want to thank the FH team for the following features in FH.

1. Thank you for spawning us in the top of buildings forcing us to run down many flights of stairs in order to do something useful for our team. Also thank you for spwaning us in an enclosed cemetary in the Breakthrough map. I love starting out completely surrounded by impassable barriers.
2. Thank you for giving us small and predictable spawn zones in many maps, to make it easier for the other team to focus all their firepower in one concentrated area when there's only one spawn left.
3. Thank you for making most maps not count down tickets until nearly every outpost is held by either team, making it nearly impossible to win without personally killing every reinforcement the other team has. Breakthrough, anyone?
4. THank you for giving the Germans an uncappable outpost in Storm, one of the most fun maps in the game. It's awesome being able to invade a town, occupy every outpost, surround the last area, and sit there racking up spawnkills while the tickets slowly diminish, instead of letting the Russians actually occupy the town as is possible in other occupation type maps.
5. Thank you for giving the germans artillery weapons in Omaha Beach that are incapable of reaching any of the allies as they invade. DOuble thanks for erecting wooden barricades in front of the rocket tubes, which prevent the gunner from lowering the angle to where it might actually hit something.
6. Thank you for keeping the BAR and Bren from being used in any position other than in the prone. Because we all know the BAR couldn't be aimed until at least five minutes after a person stopped moving. All the video footage of BARs being fired in any other position were fakes, I'm sure. And just to demonstrate an extreme example, check out this PKM being shoulder fired: movie
7. Thank you for making simple hand-held anti-tank weapons the most cumbersome and slow to aim weapons in the game. I'm sure that video footage of Germans running behind a tank and popping off a PFaust was filmed in 3x speed or something. THere's no way a person could ready that thing in less than the time it takes in FH. Glad you stuck with the facts on that one.
8. Thank you for keeping the AT rocket weapons from flying at the speed in which they were documented as flying. Same for trajectories. I'm sure a bursting charge on that Panzerfaust couldn't put it out any better than hand-chucking the thing, as it does in FH currently. This movie doesn't show much, but it shows that they fly out faster than a thrown cottonball. movie
9. Thank you for not giving the submachineguns the ease of use and low recoil that they had in real life. Giving them a distinct advantage in short range fighting would have been a big mistake, I'm sure. I'm positive this footage of controllable automatic fire was faked: thompson MP40 PPSH
10. Of course, thank you for making most planes handle like bricks and have the momentum of a lead-filled nuclear pile.
Wow, I'm thanked out. Ok, so that was really cynical. But they are huge peeves and really affect the enjoyability of the game. I would think alot of them would have been addressed with all the time and playtesting that went on. Honestly... thanks FH team. This release is awesome. I just wish it was a bit less bittersweet.
You can find the thread here and all the reactions...just to be fair. :)

The first mod for BFV? ( well, mini-mod anyway ). This from Zeuser of DCX...Available from your friendly neighborhood Zeuser. This is a little mini-mod I tossed together. Mostly as an educational exercise for myself but anyone who wants to get into modding BF:V could start with this. I will probably use BFV-X to adjust balance and experiment with some wild concepts. Check our download section to get the file. It's only 199KB. Just unzip it to Battlefield Vietnam/Mods. Readme extract:

Silent Heroes releases video...Flashpoint:Balkans update...Lost Battalion Update...Update on the BG42/FH sound issue...Battlefield Single Player...FPS Central's interview with DC...Longest Day map update...
Silent Heroes has released a video highlighting the Tiger and Gepard. You can download the 9:00 min. video here.

The Flashpoint:Balkans mod for BF1942 has completed 2 more models....dragunova-We have completed two new objects that will be seen in the mod, the PK machine gun and the SA-13 (Strela 10 M3) SAM system. Also, we have officially merged with the Tactical War team and we will be working together to produce the best mod possible. To that, I give you the FAMAS rifle: They've also stated that they're first release will be for BFV ... We have finally gotten our forums back up and we are back on the road to kick. We are close to completion of weapons on the first release, so expect renders soon posted as news. We have begun our campaign to complete about 10-20 vehicles with the same high quality as all our other weapons. We will be moving on to Battlefield Vietnam for the first release, as we can take advantage of all of their equipment and features. The second release may have a Battlefield 1942 version. We have merged with the Tactical War team, as they are a group of fine folks who will help us model and map. With this, we will be adding to our country list a French team. And finally, we will continue to bring you the best mod we can make. Thank you, Dragunova. They've also confirmed that the release probably won't be before June...

The Lost Battalion mod has updated their webpage and I must say I like the design,,,clean, very neat looking. Find it here...

This issue, as far as I've been able to see, is remaining remarkably silent from the public eye except in the forums. I'll try and update...BG42's developers are claiming that Forgotten Hope used BG42's aircraft sounds in their latest release. Judging from what info has been given in the forums I'd have to say BG42 has a case if not 100% right. Part of this assumption is based on the facts but not all. Not name dropping but when this site used to be in transition from covering StrikeForce ( a mod for UT ) to BF I came across some of Panzaman's findings re: Tank armor, shell trajectory e.t.c in BF1942. I asked if I could post his findings on my site. Though my dealings were short they were quite cordial and honest and I must say I see the same from Panzaman now. The forum in question is here and you can see it unfolding day by day. I must say that the current evidence seems to put FH at a loss and one would have to say that they did use the sounds and without acknowledgement. What I also find interesting is that no one else in the BF news community seems to really know this is going on...or haven't posted it....interesting...it seems quite serious to me...

Battlefield Singe Player has a little bit of a review of BFV and the single-player role....and a little more. Here's a snippet...Many of these areas, mainly sounds and FX, should be improved soon by the community. I would guess AI editing would be just around the corner too, or at least I hope so (winks at Dnamro). There is alot of potential to be had with BFV and its resources, and mod/editing tools from the get-go instead of waiting around for them like with BF42. BF1942 still retains a certain charm and ease of use... Go here for the rest of the read...

FPS Central has an excellent interview with DC...find the full interview here..

About BF:V. What do you think of that game?
[DC_Dev]Gabriel: After playing the game I came to the conclusion it's very interesting, though it has some flaws. It is definitely a nice update.
iggy: I like bump maps. i've read some somewhat negative reviews about the audio quality and sound fx of the game. i dont think they can win over hardcore fps players unless its fixed.
Gabriel: BF:V has some interesting features. It is basically Battlefield deluxe - if you like Battlefield 1942, you can't really hate BF:V. The screenshots I've seen so far look impressive. I really look forward to Battlefield: Vietnam.

Have you downloaded the Longest Day maps? More about them here...Not much has been done concerning the new patch for Omaha, so we might not worry too much about it since already the map is dropping off the radar screen of most players, what with the release of the latest Forgotten Hope version, along with the always great BattleGroup 42 and some other huge mod updates.

Call to Arms to soon release 0.4a?...Silent Heroes new site up...XWWII Screenshot contest...Lost Battalion making 'adjustments'...BF42 servers...
According to pickle if CTA continues it's current pace 0.4a is not far off...awesome! Also...something Torch is working on is the Harley Recon bike, they are also checking on the legality issues before officially including it but it looks great nonetheless!

The 'new' site is up for Silent Heroes...you can find more information here. Basically recent forum posts are now available from the homepage.

There's more new screens in the screenshot (..."allow myself to introduce .... myself" ) contest. You can find the direct link to the forum here and see the rest but I picked the ones I like.... taken by JR Pinoy....
