We're here!!!!!!! .... Our official Desert Combat Server...
It's official - we're here. I guess since you accessed this url and all... o.k. I'll stop. I want to thank Syko setting up the specifics of the website ( registering the domain for myself and all the other stuff... that allows myself ( WildWild) to simply login and dump the page here, appreciate it. In the next few days I'll list more specifics about this group... should be interesting...ahhh the power of the web:) .

We've got an official Desert Combat server - just type wlv in the filter and it should come up. We'll be putting up a DCX Server up sometime during the week.

Desert Combat Server up ( currently working on it anyway )...
After a successful if not brief BF1942 server run I'm currently working at getting the DC Server up. It may happen tonight yet... by tomorrow night later on for sure. Look for the [wLv] in the server filter and you'll find it. Current maps will be defaults but we want to move to custom that fits a 10 player server specifically. Just letting you know...

BF1942 Server up...new site on the way!!!...????
Well the BF1942 server is up... note that the DC server as is planned ( and should happen this week ). It is a DSL connection and if you do give it a try do let me know how it ran for you. Currently there is only one map ( Bocage ) . It will change this week to a DC Server. In your server filter in BF1942 just look for wlv...it should pop up. :]

Also, we've got a new site coming your way! It will be registered this week and will not only be home of the Wolverines but will hopefully encompass a wider range of topics...again time allowing. Fancy yourself a reporter and feel like sharing that little bit of info with the world? There will be room eventually for others to join and supply information for the site....it may be sometime but just to put a bug in your ear.

I had another topic of possible interest but it fails to come to mind....hmmmm....

Still here...BFDC Server at 45% :)
Yes, still here. I've been working on putting a BF/DC Server online and working with SCSI drives...DOS drivers, blah blah blah. I just could not get it to work so I went and found a 1.7 and a 850mb IDE drive and go BF1942 running...now I'm hoping I can get DC on the 850....I'm not to hopeful either. I'll have to see if there's another drive I can dig up somewhere. It's not going to be a massive 64 player server but I'd like to put up some of the awesome custom maps out there.... got any that you absolutely love? Let me know but using the contact us at the top left.... and I'll see what I can do. I do want to get the DC to work so that will take first preference....let me know what map you think beats all and let also send me the download link...don't send me the map!!!! :) Also currently working is an FTP server with .... you got it... tons of maps. It's running right now but I just want to load it up.... first I want to get the server running....

Just so there's a bit of news... Battlefield 2 is coming out next year and here are the details .... take care....

Battlefield Vietnam Tweak
If your having issues with BFV and online lag this one tweak helps...you want to have the ability to change your refresh rate - go to C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield Vietnam\Mods\BfVietnam\settings and look for the file videodefault.com.....edit the file and change renderer.allowAllRefreshRates 0 to renderer.allowAllRefreshRates 1. That should help your video in BFV!

Battlefield2 in the making...Eastern Battles has many updates...
As reported by Planetbattlefield there is a 'new' game in town and it's here soon! It's called Battlefield2 and is being released by EA. Here's a small excerpt from Computergaming world....That's a tentative title, of course. The game isn't a direct follow-up to Battlefield 1942 or Battlefield: Vietnam. Instead, it jumps forward to the world of modern warfare. The sequel will feature the latest in modern small arms, heavy weapons, and fighting vehicles -- M-4 carbines with IR scopes; M-60 machineguns with steadying bipods; M-1 tanks with reactive countermeasures; and of course, much more. You can find the article here....

Eastern Battles has a lot of renders to show though I would consider none exceptional. You can if you have the time go here to see the updates...

Battlefield Singleplayer has an interesting add-on for BFV...called the Realplayer mod. Here's what that is about...Realplayer Battlefield Vietnam is a single player/coop enhancement mini-mod.
This is an open source mod. Other mod teams are welcome to use the AI improvements for their own mods.
The mod contains several bug fixes and changes to improve the single player/coop experience.
To install - just extract the installer from zip file and run.
To play - start the game from the Realplayer vietnam icon or select realplayer from the custom game menu.

1.e:
- Specialized bot names on all maps
- Maximized attack and aggression on all maps. Some maps were maxed out by DICE. Maps improved by RealPlayer:
Hoci. Trail
Cambodia
Hue
Reclaim Hue
IA Drang
Khe Sahn
Op. Irving

Previous -
- Added Realplayer AIbehaviors for more aggressive bots.
- Medpacks are enabled for bots and added to most classes.
- The wrench is fixed for bot use.
- Third person soldier view added.
- Gun camera tweaked on most vehicles.
- Several vehicle AI bugs fixed ( such as gunner on helicopter).
- Bots capability to fire from passenger postion added to BTR60 and Samapan.
- Bots tendency to bail from pilot postion of helicopters was reduced.
- Bot weapon ranges overall are increased.
- Bots will use grenades against vehicles.
- Smoke grenade replaced with standard grenade.
- Bots will prefer to use rocket weapons against vehicles and change to another weapon to attack infantry.

This is a combined project with Necronom and Dnamro.
You can find out more here at BFSingleplayer or go directly to the download here...

I watched the following video with my mouth open....it's kind of how I fly in DC except the video would be done a little sooner...well a lot sooner actually. Really, I could do this....awww forget it....just make sure you watch the video...right-click on the link to download it or click to play it in WMP right away. Wow....(thanks to Skankbaby for posting this originally).

Call to Arms and Korea mod...Next Threat mod back???...BFV Community update...Flashpoint Balkans update...

The Call to Arms group and a Korea mod for BFV is gaining strength, at least in discussion anyway. Here's a small part of the article posted by [ROTC]1Canuck - Battle Of Kapyong - The Chinese spring offensive began across a broad front the evening of 22 April, 1951. With only hours to set up its positions, the 27th Commonwealth Brigade’s (Great Britain, Australia, New Zealand, and Canada) mission was to hold the two approaches to Kapyong. Kapyong was the doorway to Seoul, and would have left all of South Korea open to enemy forces. This was the first time in the war Canadians engaged the Chinese army on a large scale.
The battle raged for three days. Human waves of screaming Chinese bayonet charges resulted in some of the bloodiest and most ferocious hand-to-hand fighting of the Korean War.
Set against enormous odds the allied positions began to crumble. Commonwealth units on the surrounding hills abandoned their positions as thousands of enemy troops stormed through the valley. The Canadians, outnumbered 10 to 1, cut off and alone, held their position for three days, until the Chinese abandoned their attack.
The Canadians kept the front from collapsing, blunting the third, and final Chinese attempt of the war to capture Seoul. By the evening of 24 April, it became obvious that the Canadians had won the bloody encounter, and the Chinese attack had failed.
For their bravery, the second battalion Princess Patricia’s Light Infantry became the only Canadian unit in history to receive an American presidential citation – a distinction the US government rarely bestows on foreign troops.
There's more to this post and this thread here is a good read for those who didn't know about this battle...doing a mod for BFV by the CTA group seems just like the right thing to do! What they need now is to notify the community to let them know they are thinking of this, create a little interest..... how about it guys! Let's put this Canadian mod at the forefront! :)

Next Threat has been quiet lately but after checking their forum one of the members was bewailing the mods end...but was later offered 'big things' and questioned if he 'wanted in'. And then there was the mention of Far Cry....? Just thought I'd mention it....

EA has released a community update....Community Update - 4.9.04 THANK YOU!
Online numbers for BFV were huge the first week it was released and they don't show signs of slowing down. You're all obviously enjoying the the game! Everyone at DICE and EA would like to thank the fans and welcome all the new faces to the world of Battlefield!
Battlefield Vietnam Update
For those of you familiar with Battlefield 1942, you're already aware of the level of support you can expect from the Battlefield team. Battlefield Vietnam is no exception. In the next few months you can expect to see updates which add new features, incorporate community requests and add new content. We're currently working on an update which will incorporate some of your suggestions such as tweaking the M60/LAW combo as well as addressing performance issues experienced by some people. Stay tuned for more information on this in the upcoming weeks.
Server Admins
Be advised, BFV has a higher bandwidth requirement than Battlefield 1942. This is due to the new features added in the game such as overgrowth and airlifting. We are working to optimize these further, but a simple solution includes properly choking your servers to the appropriate setting. We also recommend that you run only one instance of BFV on a server based on your bandwidth pipeline. Some rules of thumb include:
16-player: WinOS or Linux/1.8Ghz processor/256MB RAM/T1 connection
32-player: WinOS or Linux/2.8Ghz processor/512MB RAM/T1 connection
64-player: WinOS or Linux/3+Ghz processor/512MB RAM/T3 connection (You will need at least 4Mbit of bandwidth)
ATI Card Users
We are currently discussing with ATI the issues with BFV and certain high-end ATI cards. As an interim solution, if you turn off Anti-Aliasing and Anisotropic Filtering you will have a much better playing experience.
That's it for this week, so until we talk next, happy hunting!
EAComMike and the rest of te Battlefield team!

Nightfighters mod for BFV...Call To Arms to do Korea???...XWWII has announced a mapping contest...DCX has another ally...
Nightfighters is moving from BF1942 to BFV and they've released some pics....from the render to the ingame shot. You can check out their newly released website here.... ( not too much info yet...)

The Call To Arms folks are looking at using the BFV engine but not for the Vietnam conflict...how about the Korean Conflict? Well, they are talking about it and it would be interesting...a combined operation by two seperate countrys troops ,to relieve and eventually win over a large and efficient attack .shows about how the korean war was fought , in the air canadians flew with the american 5 air force in top line saber jets ,achieveing 23 kills of migs and doing much effective work against ground targets. that the americans wanted the canadian pilots on the front line is obvious...You can find more of the thread here if you're interested...here's another thread and a small note from Pickle...ive already sketched a few things from ,the korean war so ill give a tought to maps now the battle for hill 355 is a natural one right off , the seaborne landings at inchon is another . a air war one with jets called mig ally another one with ground attack aircraft and ground forces moving against a fortified enemy position .a navel map the canadian fleet had 8 ships in korea and used them to support inchon landings and also the blocade of the north korean coast attacking shipping and on land trains etc...

XWWII has announced a mapping contest...Do you have what it takes to make a map of a battle that took place in World War 2? Can you make a map that the XWWII community would be proud of, and would gladly play on? Then this is the time to stand up and show your stuff! - So here is your chance! We are planning to make a Fan Map Pack of 5 selected maps. These maps will get full support from the development team, but they will be chosen based on certain criteria and will be tested by our beta test team. The contest will take place in the coming 3 weeks; we will release the best of the submitted maps 2 weeks after the contest starts. So the date of start is today April 3rd, and the ending date will be on 30th of April. With an announcement of the chosen 5 coming shortly after. There's plenty more to read about it over at their website...this is your chance!!!!

DCX has a new ally in the UK...in the game that is...here are the new renders...and more at their website!!! ( and DCX .73 is on it's way ).

Flashpoint Balkans have a new website...Eastern Battles update...
Flashpoint Balkans have reported that their new website is up .... and judging by the contents they are now a BFV mod...here's the initial note on their website...We are a dedicated mod about the balkans conflict and do not promote genocide and ethnic cleansing of any kind. Our goal is to be the best and the most enjoyable mod for Battlefield Vietnam. Find the new site here...

Eastern Battles has updated their site with two new renders...a knife and grenades. What's their mod about? Eastern Battles is a Modification for the EA and Dice game Battlefield Vietnam which is like the famous game Battlefield 1942 also made by EA and Dice but set in Vietnam. Eastern Battles will be set around wars in the Middle East and based around the war in Afghanistan with Taliban and Al Qaida forces fightning the USA and it's Coalition. If there is interest in the future we might add the Israel - Palestine war. Eastern Battles will bring a new atmosphere , at least two new armies and many new weapons , vehicles and maps. Find their website here and the renders below.

BattleGroup42 and Forgotten Hope come to terms...Next Threat non-update...XWWII early 2.5 Wake screens...Communist Agression changes engines...
Battlegroup42 and Forgotten Hope have come to terms with this release...BattleGroup42 & Forgotten Hope would like to issue the following statement to the community:
As many members of the Battlefield 1942 community are aware, there have been rumors circulating about the use of Battlegroup42 sounds in the Forgotten Hope mod. Following the recent release of FH 0.6/0.61 we investigated and found that Forgotten Hope 0.6/0.61 includes most of the sounds from our November 2003 release of BattleGroup 0.9. We raised this issue with the FH team, who have responded as follows:
-----------
The popularity of Forgotten Hope has been a double-edged sword, inviting praise and criticism. The watchful members of Battlegroup42 have publicly accused Forgotten Hope that a sizeable amount of their aerial soundwork is contained within our mod. While the internet is a vast resource of information and ideas, one still has to respect the work of others, whether it be that of individuals or corporations. Upon our own inspection, the sounds and their scripts have been verified as being taken straight from Battlegroup42.
We were appalled to find out this was true. We have been asked to credit them for the content in releases 0.6/0.61 and that we promptly remove the sounds for any future builds. We have agreed to this fair demand. We apologize if this has ruined your gaming experience or that it has destroyed your trust in us. Lastly, we deeply apologize to Battlegroup42 for what has occurred and assure all of you this will not happen again.
Forgotten Hope Development Team
-----------------
We appreciate these comments and the professional way FH have dealt with this matter. We also accept that it was not intentional on the part of the current FH team. We consider the matter is now resolved, and wish FH good luck for the future.
BattleGroup42 Development Team ...
Kudos to both mod creators for coming to such an agreement....follow the thread further here...

Next Threat has been rather silent for awhile and it looks as though that may continue. There is no apparent move towards coding on the existing version of NT and no apparent move to BFV. It wait and see for those who enjoyed this mod...

Perusing through XWWII I found some wake screens for the 2.5 release...Wake has already been modified slightly from when these were taken but will give us a very good idea...

Communist Aggression has moved from BF1942 to UT2004 - here's the official ...well you know...Yes it has been decided by the team to switch the newer engine of Unreal Tournament 2004. Models will be higher qualitiy and smoother! Forums are updated with a new Communist Aggression Theme thanks to me... Also expect some major design changes on the site, am am planning on a brushed metal look... :-D. You can find their website here...

Archives...April Fools day (tongue in cheek)/Call to Arms...Silent Heroes update...Flashpoint Balkans...XWWII update...BG42 tie-in...Eve of Destruction is going BFV!...DCX announces challenge!!!...Video...Trauma Studios interview...Site note...
Occasionally I'll mention this as we change the newsline...you can access all the news we've had by date by just going to the archives section top left.

After listing the date I was wondering whether I should report anything today but here goes..anything to outlandish I'll avoid. Call To Arms has mentioned that they've got a new member. Autopilot is the name and modeller is his game.... looks as though CTA continues to grow, congrats! The following pic was released by Torch earlier this week... a foxhole... This foxhole is just big enough for one man to stand in, when crouching only his head is visible, and when lying down he's hidden. Perfect for fights like Bastogne.- Torch. You'll also notice some other models released by Torch earlier...awesome renders that deserved reposting!

There was a Silent Heroes update posted by Zarkow...here's a portion... So what is going on inside the small cottage that contains most of Team SH in shacles? We are continuing to develop SH. Internal betas are being worked on and the beta-team is slowly comming alive after the christmas vacation again. As of right now we are a handfull of extreamly dedicated developers that are working on a daily basis with the development. Sometimes we joke on irc that we might be one of the smallest active MODing teams [with a MOD in this larger download-volume], and sadly it's probably not very far from the truth. Recently Mr. Tobias Gustafsson (TurboGlider) joined the ranks of our team and is picking up with creating houses and larger static objects.
What does it take to be a part of an MOD-team? Lots and lots of dedication. Experience is something you recieve - knowledge is something you get - the hunger to develope yourself is something you have. If you think you might have what it takes then check out the job-listings on our website.
There have been many questions as to when the next release (projected to be 0.35) is going to be released, what it will contain and what changes that will be made.
As always, we always answer these questions automatically when we know it ourselfs, by posting it on the forums. There will be new maps, new vehicles, new features, new unique quirks and some hidden candy. But please be patient and let us work - we are doing it as fast as we can. :]

Not sure what happen to FSB...maybe they changes their link but for whatever reason they are Offline....really...check here.

XWWII has released a number of updates recently...most recently was yesterday where they posted their The M1919a4 30cal. Light Machine Gun . Below you'll find some pics of that and photos of Mapper's 1.6 mappack...

Probably old news??? BG42 has announced a tie-in ( not a merger ) with the Operation Anubis mod. This from BGLoki- The BG42 team is pleased to announce a tie-in with the Operation Anubis mod. What does this mean? The Operation Anubis team have very kindly allowed the BG42 team access to their entire-inventory of models covering everything from tanks to planes and boats in the late WW2 period. In return we aim to bring all the relevant models we can into BG42 so their work gets the recognition it deserves. We're particularily excited by the ships and hope many will fit into the Pacific battles of late WW2. Please note this does NOT mean we are shifting to a fantasy WW2 mod format. We will only be using valid Operation Anubis vehicles that saw service in WW2.To check out what is in store, go to The Operation Anubis Mod Site ... We also have many WIP screens for you...... To see those screens check them out here.... there are quite a few...

Trauma Studios has recently (today) has an interview with HomeLan. You'll want to read this no doubt! -

HomeLAN - Before we ask about your professional plans, let's talk about Desert Combat. Will the mod continue to be developed for Battlefield: 1942 for a free download?
Frank DeLise - DesertCombat will remain free for the foreseeable future. We have no plans to sell DC.
HomeLAN - What new content and improvements will be made to the BF: 1942 version of Desert Combat?
Frank DeLise - We are currently working on DesertCombat .8, it will include new vehicles such as the F-117, Patriots and more. An area of focus will also be new maps such as first light.

Just letting you know that we will be covering BFV in the future as well as BF1942...
